technology to perform a root canal

A tooth may require a root canal for various reasons. A few more common causes are deep cavities, infection, inflammation, or trauma. Most people associate the need for a root canal with a toothache but surprisingly, in many cases, a tooth can be infected and abscessed without any symptoms at all.

If you’re suffering from any of these symptoms, we can perform root canal therapy to restore the tooth's health.

What is a Root Canal?

Root canal therapy essentially removes bacteria and sterilizes the infected area of the tooth, which allows healing and relief from discomfort.

After the infected area is cleansed, it is filled and then sealed to prevent further infection.

In most cases a custom crown is required to provide strength and protection.  Thanks to CEREC® technology, we can often complete the root canal and crown in a single visit!

Signs You Need a Root Canal

A dental infection can manifest with these symptoms:

  • Severe toothache
  • Prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold
  • Swelling with or without drainage
  • Bad taste or breath
  • In some cases, an abscess can be completely asymptomatic

Are Root Canals Painful?

Contrary to popular belief, root canals are not painful.  With proper anesthesia, you should be able to have a root canal in a similar fashion to how you would with a filling or crown.

However, if you’re still feeling hesitant or just don’t like the idea of longer appointments, we can always discuss the possibility of sedation dentistry to help you comfortably get the treatment you need!
